Everything You Need To Know About The Volvo XC40

The Volvo XC40 is a car that has gone from strength to strength since its concept creation five years ago. It was introduced in 2017. It is a highly strong contender in the market for small premium SUVs. With highly competitive pricing along with Volvo’s added focus on safety, the Volvo XC40 is a great leasing offer for any driver.

In September of 2020, the Volvo XC40 was the 9th most registered car and the highest registered SUV vehicle with 5,653 registrations – going to show we’re not the only ones who love this car.

The XC40 was awarded “Car of the Year” by ‘What Car?’ and European Car of the Year at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show.

Let’s take a look at what makes this a great car, below is everything you need to know about the Volvo XC40:

Volvo's First Five-Door Compact SUV

The Volvo XC40 is a mid-sized premium SUV that focuses on blending practicality with comfort as well as adding a dynamic and bold styling to the design. It has the Premium SUV aesthetic that is apparent in both of Volvo’s XC60 and XC90 models but compacts this in an exceptionally appealing small car package.

The XC40 is also of a similar exceptional safety rating to its older siblings. With all three SUVs in Volvo’s range achieving a five-star Euro NCAP rating. The XC40 has an impressive line-up of standard safety features available on every trim.

The car has five possible trims available: Momentum, R-Design, R-Design Pro, Inscription and Inscription Pro. The Momentum is the base model leading all the way up to the more executive Pro trims with the Inscription Pro being described as “refined and elegant – absolute Scandinavian luxury.”

Every trim shares the same base engine options: the T3 and B4. Both having a front-wheel-drive option and automatic transmission. The T3 is the only engine in the range to have a manual transmission option. The B4 also has an all-wheel-drive as well. The R-Design trim and upwards additionally have a B5 all-wheel-drive option and a Plug-in hybrid T5 front-wheel-drive engine. Only the R-Design and Inscription trims have a fifth engine option: the plug-in hybrid T4 front-wheel drive. Volvo does not offer any diesel options for the Volvo XC40. Volvo also offers a fully-electric trim called the Recharge First Edition. This has a pure electric P8 all-wheel-drive automatic engine.

Take A Look Inside

The Volvo XC40 maximises the potential of every bit of space inside the cabin. The interior is described as very Swedish: neat, functional and clean with the dashboard set out so it is uncluttered and there are few switches and buttons required. The car has a long wheelbase which essentially allows it to provide impressive legroom for rear passengers and plenty of room for four adults to sit comfortably.

It has a 460 litre boot which isn’t the most spacious in its class but a flat floor and no lip on the front edge allows for heavier items to be taken or slide in and out.
